Hey guys, just posting here to see who would be interested in playing some PM during the Wednesday sessions. If you're interested, just post to let me know. With enough interest I can bring my setup and get some games going.
I think PM is a great game for Smash 4 players who are discouraged by Melee's high execution demands. I was a Brawl player from 2011 til around Christmas 2013, when I got an SD card and tried PM. I got hooked instantly, and it's the reason I ended up picking up Melee. If you want a game with a faster, more offensive pace, without the extremely tight input windows of Melee, give it a shot.
I was thinking it would be cool to do a "mixed doubles" round robin or something next Weds to build hype for the tournament on the 30th. "Mixed doubles" basically means one Melee player and one Smash 4 player on each team. We could do a low buy-in (or free) round robin with random "mixed" teams if we get enough interest.
If people get really hype I can bring my setup for Sunday too.

I have a setup I could bring as well, although I can't guarantee I'll be there every Wednesday. I love PM but have barely played it since I picked up Melee, so I'll be rusty (which for me means I'll suck lol)

I mean, Sheik is the same except that upB startup is more invincible and dthrow is less stupid afaik. Dephlo might know more though

Oh I completely avoid her in PM haha. I actually have almost no character crossover between Smash titles. I think it's more fun and rewarding that way. PM is actually the one game where I can play my true love G&W, and my other heartthrob, Bowser. On the more technical note, I have started trying to learn Snake in PM as well, but that is going to be an uphill battle because he's just so unusual

Always happy to hear that someone is avoiding Sheik lol.
Dephlo also has a mean PM G&W (I guess that explains your avatar btw). I hate PM Bowser with a murderous passion (this stems from my general distaste for crouch-cancelling). Adin messes around with Snake as well, but I could never get the hang of him.
If money's on the line, I'd probably play Marth. In 3.02 Metaknight was my main, but they changed his timings so much, and I've put so much time into Melee Marth, that MK's just a decent secondary at this point. I love Ike as well (my old Brawl main). Basically, I just love swords. I also, to a lesser extent, play DK and Falco, and to an even lesser extent Wario, Falcon, Lucas, Link.
Honestly the best part of PM for me is that you can just pick up so many characters and have fun and be pretty good with them. That's also what pushed me to Melee though- I felt that I should learn a few core MUs as one character, rather than just FOX around all over the place, to better develop my fundamentals.

Yeah! Go ahead and bring it next time, I'll make sure to get a set up or two going each week. Seems like something some people might enjoy.

Yeah I love using G&W as an icon, I just think he has a great look. Also, Dephlo and I really need to choose some different characters lol, this is weird. And yes Bowser's defense/counterattack game what with CCing everything and Up-B OOS is ridiculous for sure.
Yeah MK has definitely been screwed by post-Brawl hate, but I think even with the nerfs and timing changes he'll still always be good in PM. With money on the line I would probably stick to Bowser, I've also found success with Toon Link in some of Bowser's weaker matchups and just play G&W if I'm feeling it. I also love me some Ivysaur, I also think Ike is great, ZSS is tight, and Kirby is actually really cool.
Yes I definitely agree that is the best part of PM. I have to say PM is the most "fun" Smash, with Melee being the most awesome in a little bit of a different way.
I agree that you can take Melee deeper. I think a big problem with PM is that since every character sans MK got buffs, it's a game where you can take "gimmicks" really really far, but in Melee you really have to grind and learn fundamentals and matchups and I honestly find that more fascinating and rewarding at the end of the day. The one thing about me and PM is that I'm lame and the legal issues worry me, so I'm going to stick to playing it on the side for fun until the smoke clears (if it ever does).

I really want to try PM but it's hard to stop playing Melee when everyone else is around because I love it and I've got a whole lot to improve at and playing all y'all beasts is the best. But I miss Snake so much. So, so much. Grenades, Nikita missiles, landmines, C4, sliding mortar roll cancel things, Snake is the best.

Yeah, PM rawks. I probably won't be attending most Wednesdays, though I'd love to have a set up on Sundays. I play Ganon(duh), Roy, Ivy, and G-and-dubs. I just don't *get* people playing spacies in P:M. That's what Melee is for. There are so many interesting characters to mess around with. sliding mortar roll cancel things 8/10 I laughed. D.A.C.U.S: noun. "daa-kiss" Dash Attack Canceled Up Smash. You're dashing, start a dash attack and then immediately Up smash (I think hitting down and then up on C-stick works nice). Quite a few characters can do it, not all usefully. Notable DACUSs include the sliding mortor roll cancel thing, Falco's, and idk lucas maybe? Some DACUSs are also capable of being "Gatling combos" Meaning that the D-attack has a few frames worth of hitbox before it's canceled into upsmash, so you can potentially hit with both. Falco's can do this. There's a youtube vid, I'm sure. EDIT: Youtube vid that was supposed to exist
